A Georgia cashier was brutally gunned down inside a grocery store after asking a customer to wear a mask.
On Monday, the senseless shooting took place after an unidentified cashier at the Big Bear Supermarket in DeKalb asked the shooter, 30-year-old Victor Lee Tucker Jr., to wear a mask while inside the store in accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines. Tucker left but returned shortly afterward armed with a gun and hit the female employee before shooting her in the head. She was pronounced dead shortly after. A retired deputy and part-time reservist with the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office working security at the supermarket exchanged gunfire with Tucker, striking him multiple times. The security officer was also hit twice but is in stable condition. Tucker’s condition has also been listed as stable.
A bullet grazed another cashier. However, she was treated at the scene and is expected to survive.
DeKalb County Sheriff Melody Maddox praised the officer for stepping in and preventing further tragedies.
“He is a stand-up, professional individual, and he loves what he does. As you see, he’s continuing to do what he does to make sure that everybody is safe as they go in and out of that store,” Maddox stated.
