A new Bloomberg report claims that Airbnb spends $50 Million a year to deal with hosts and guests who have bad, some might even say, “traumatic” experiences while using the service.

The payouts are used towards necessary after-care like counseling sessions, patching bullet holes, and hiring body-fluid crews to clean up blood, the report states.

Bloomberg reportedly viewed a confidential Airbnb document that said the company had spent nearly $50 Million settling legal disputes and repairing damages to hosts’ homes in recent years.

Bloomberg also spoke with current and former members of Airbnb’s safety team, who confirmed that the company could spend as much money as they deemed necessary to make guests and hosts who’ve had traumatic experiences feel supported.

This included booking alternative accommodation and flights for guests and paying for counseling and treatment for rape victims.

The Airbnb staffers said the company had even gone so far as to pay for round-the-world vacations and dog-counseling sessions, doing whatever was necessary to offset the offense. One former safety agent described the company’s approach to problem-solving as “shooting the money cannon.”
