The hip-hop icon spoke with the Los Angeles Times about the frightening health scare that caught him completely off guard, calling it a “really weird thing.” Dre explained that he never suffered from high blood pressure and had always cared about his health. However, he says that “there’s something that happens for some reason with Black men and high blood pressure.”

According to the CDC, African American men are disproportionately afflicted with high blood pressure, which leads to heart disease and stroke.

“I think every Black man should just check that out and make sure things are OK with the blood pressure. And I’m going to move on and, hopefully, live a long and healthy life. I’m feeling fantastic.”

TMZ broke the news in early January that the Beats Electronics mogul had suffered a brain aneurysm and had been taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California. Shortly after, his team released a statement confirming that he was in stable condition. A message to his fans was also posted to his Instagram account, thanking fans and loved ones for their support. He was reportedly released from the hospital days after.
