Acclaimed singer and star of BET’s “The Encore,” Nivea, has opened up about R. Kelly making advances at her when she was younger.
The revelation came out during a recent interview with Angela Yee’s “Lip Service.” The conversation was surrounding dating older men, and the “Complicated” singer revealed that she’d had sex with someone who was twenty years her senior. Co-host Lore’l asked Nivea if she was referring to her former producer, R. Kelly, to which the singer hastily replied, “NO!”
Lore’l then asked the 39-year-old Kelly ever made a pass at her during their time working together in the early 2000s. Nivea confirmed that he indeed tried to shoot his shot.
“Yes, he did. The thing is, being in the industry as a young little girl or a young female, the industry is filled with men. Everybody’s trying to talk to you, girl!”
R. Kelly notably wrote and produced Nivea’s 2001 hit single “Laundromat.” He also worked on other records for her, including “Touchin‘” and “The One For Me.”
When asked years ago during an interview with DJ Vlad, Nivea said that she didn’t realize Kelly’s disturbing inclinations while they collaborated. R. Kelly is currently facing a slew of sex abuse charges.
