The wife and stepdaughter of an off-duty deputy were shot early Sunday morning in their Houston, Texas home. The gunman forced his way into their home, according to the police chief.
CNN reports that Houston police responded to an “officer assist” call around 2:20 a.m. Sunday. According to Police Chief Troy Finner, a man wearing all black and armed “with a shotgun and some kind of assault weapon” forced entry into the home and opened fire.
The deputy’s 4-year-old stepdaughter was shot in the arm and required surgery. She is listed in stable condition. Finner said the officer’s wife was shot in the leg and is doing “ok.”
The deputy did exchange gunfire with the intruder, and the suspect was hit. A trail of blood was left behind. Significant police presence was noted outside the complex where the shooting took place as the investigation is ongoing. The search continues for the suspect.
The motive for the shooting remains unknown at this time.Â
“We don’t know anything, what’s the motive of this, if it was targeted or what, all we know is he forced entry,” according to Finner.
