A Florida man allegedly pulled a gun out on a Starbucks employee who turned out to be a police chief’s daughter.
Omar Wright, 38, pulled into a Starbucks drive-thru and allegedly yelled at a 23-year-old worker because they forgot to give him cream cheese for his bagel. According to reports, Wright verbally abused the young woman, physically threatened her, and brandished his weapon, which was a gun.
“She felt in fear of her life,” said Miami Gardens Police Chief Delma Noel-Pratt said, who is the mother of the alleged victim. “It was upsetting to me to know that someone would go to that extreme not having cream cheese on his bagel.” The woman claims that when the man said they’d forgot his cream cheese, she asked did he pay for it, and that’s when he allegedly pulled the gun on her. The police chief’s daughter then gave the man the cream cheese and he reportedly drove off.
“Forget about the badge, forget about the title, that’s my child,” she told a Miami-based station. “And I thought about, am I going to see her again? Is she OK? Of course, she was upset, she was crying, and so I had to go into mom mode.”
Wright was arrested Thursday in connection to the incident, and he was charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery. The man is being held on a $10,000 bond. Wright appeared in court for the first time on Friday and said he disagrees with the robbery charge he was given and claims it was never clear whether he paid for the cream cheese or not. He added that he didn’t point his gun at her, explaining he grabbed the weapon because it fell out of his pocket.
