Def Jam allegedly shelled out much more than $35,000 for DMX’s funeral, which was initially reported. Instead, those close to the label say that the final bill was nearly $300,000.
TMZ initially reported that probate records showed the cost of the service to be a little over $35,000, which included the custom-designed red casket, the transporting of X’s body to the funeral home, embalming, and the hearse.
However, sources close to the matter say that while Def Jam did pay $35,228.13 for base charges, the Kanye West-produced service actually cost close to $300,000, with the bulk of that going into the renting Barclays Center.
Though the company has not confirmed this updated price, the sources claim that the hefty lump sum was a generous gift from the label for all that the rapper has given to the hip-hop industry for nearly 30 years.
As previously reported, the “X Gon Give It To Ya” rapper died on April 9th, 2021, after an overdose that left him in a coma.
