Embattled R&B singer R. Kelly has been transferred to a federal jail in New York City ahead of his trial, scheduled to start this summer.
USA Today reports that Kelly is listed as an inmate at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn as of Wednesday. He arrived at the jail on Tuesday afternoon after being transferred from a Chicago jail where he was held for a separate trial.
The Grammy Award-winning singer is accused of running a criminal enterprise with his employees, who helped him recruit young women and girls for sex. The group targeted women at Kelly’s concerts and other venues. Travel arrangements were then made for them to meet with Kelly.Â
His New York trial is set to begin on August 9.Â
Kelly is facing similar charges in Chicago, where he has been held since he was arrested in July of 2019. The second trial is scheduled to begin this fall. Â
The R&B star has pleaded not guilty to the charges he is facing and vehemently denies any wrongdoing.Â
