Miami Beach building collapse

An Israeli colonel called in to aid local search and rescue efforts at the Surfside building collapse said he does not believe there are any more survivors under the rubble.

Col. Golan Vach arrived on-site three days after the building collapse and aided local first responders and a team of Mexican rescuers. The crews have been combing through the debris, looking for anyone who may have survived.

“We are going through this difficult time together. We talk every night… Sometimes we cry. It’s natural, but we are tough guys. This is our job, and we will do it as best as we can,” Vach told the outlet.

Vach told Local 10 on Sunday that his technicians would be returning home to Israeli Monday because he did not believe any more survivors would be discovered. Vach and seven other Israeli experts will remain in Miami-Dade until Thursday to help reassess after the rest of the building is demolished.

The official death toll is listed at 27, with 118 people still unaccounted for as of Monday. The structure was demolished around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday.
