A group of high school students forced the cancellation of a flight to the Bahamas all because they wouldn’t wear a mask.

American Airlines flight 893 was about to be on its way to the Bahamas from Charlotte Douglas International Airport on Monday, but it was delayed by high schoolers who wouldn’t comply with the federal mask mandate.

“Per procedure, the customers involved were asked to exit the aircraft. We expect our customers to comply with our policies when they choose to fly with us, and we take action when that is not the case,” reads a statement from American Airlines said in a news release.

The flight didn’t take off until Tuesday, following a day’s worth of disruptions from the group, reports show. The high schoolers caused such a problem that the airline referred to the matter as an “extended delay” when the flight had to be rescheduled. According to WCNC Charlotte, the flight departed Tuesday at 10 a.m., a little over 24 hours since the initial departure time of 9:30 a.m. Monday.

The airline says after a conversation with the group, they decided they’d finally comply. “After having a conversation with the group, our team at CLT confirmed with the customers that if they can travel on another flight, they will agree to comply with the face-covering policy. The customers ultimately agreed and will travel to Nassau tomorrow,” American Airlines said in a statement.

Stephanie Krzywanski, a passenger on the plane the students were on, said she doesn’t think rebooking the disrupters would be a good idea. “I think it’s a bad, bad idea for them to let a bunch of kids that everyone is angry with back on the plane,” she said Monday.

I just thought someone might like to know that the group of kids who caused the problems on the American Airlines flight from Charlotte to nassau Bahamas are staying at my hotel breezes resort. From what I can see they have learned nothing nor have any remorse for the trouble they caused to everyone. They are walking around claiming and preaching they were kicked off the flight bc “one single teen yawned with his mask under his nose and the flight attendant didn’t like it” and that they were being “discriminated against” bc of their age. Not one single kid has put a mask on while here, walking around like we aren’t still in a pandemic.. the rules for the resort and country of Bahamas clearly state that mask are required everywhere regardless of vaccinations status. They have been off and on the resort which is cause for a huge concern as well.

I’m hoping that getting this information out there will help fix this situation.
