A 6-year-old girl was killed, and five adults were injured Friday night in a shooting in Washington, DC.
According to CNN, the shooting happened shortly after 11 p.m. in the southeast part of the district when officers in the area heard gunshots and immediately went to the scene.
Once there, Metropolitan Police Department Executive Assistant Chief Ashan Benedict said a group of people directed cops to the wounded victims.
The girl was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later. Three men and two women were also shot, but they sustained non-life-threatening injuries. No arrests were made.
“There is too much gun violence still perpetuated in this city,” Benedict said as he pleaded with the public to help in identifying any suspects in this case while authorities continue to focus on their investigation.
