Three men were found dead, and two were critically injured Saturday at the Faster Horses Festival in Michigan. Officials believe that carbon monoxide exposure led to the men’s death.
Emergency crews and sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call at about 1:27 p.m. for five unresponsive males in their early 20s in a camping trailer. Three men were pronounced dead at the scene, and two were brought to an area hospital by ambulance. They were listed in critical condition and received treatment for acute carbon monoxide poisoning.
“The caller was a friend of the five males and became concerned when he had not heard from them,” the Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
Authorities are investigating the tragedy as a suspected carbon monoxide exposure. They suspect the carbon monoxide came from a generator that was in too close proximity to the trailer.
“First responders stress the importance of keeping generators away from camping areas, tents, travel trailers, etc., as well as exhaust fumes from running vehicles,” officials said.
