An Oklahoma wife is behind bars for murdering her husband with an ATV after asking her for a divorce.
The gruesome killing took place during a family outing at Soggy Bottoms ATV Trails in Wanette. Chanelle Lewis and her husband Christopher Lewis were with their family at a campground when they got into a heated argument over food. The disagreement quickly escalated and ended with Christopher asking for a divorce.
Christian Cornett, the son of Christopher, said that his stepmother became so enraged by the request that she threatened to kill her husband by running him over with an ATV. He says he punched Chanelle in the eye after the 35-year-old attempted to hit him and his teenage sister after mowing down their father. While his children were unhurt, Christopher succumbed to his injuries.
“He was a great man and would help anyone in need,” Cornett told local news station KFOR about his father. “I have 1,000 brothers because he was a father figure to everyone.”
Pottawatomie County Undersheriff J.T. Palmer says that this was the first case they’d seen of someone intentionally killing someone with an ATV. He also confirmed that alcohol played a role in the incident.
Chanelle has been charged with second-degree murder.
