The American Medical Association is facing renewed backlash over its recommendation that sex markers be removed from birth certificates.
The Board of Trustees publicized the guidance in June after being proposed by the House of Delegates. Sex would still be recorded for medical and statistical use but would not be listed on the portion of the birth certificate made public.
Over the weekend, WebMD tweeted about the topic, linking a June article with the AMAs recommendation. Some conservatives on Twitter got ahold of the tweet, and they were not pleased.
Former South Carolina Governor and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley called it the most ridiculous thing she’s ever heard.
Another user called removing sex from the birth certificate “criminal negligence.”
Another user joked he’d prefer medical advice from Dr. Dre over the AMA.
And New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik declared she is “proudly having a baby boy.”
