Fort Lauderdale, FL, 5/17/2019: View of a Seven Eleven store.

Two Black women are suing a 7-Eleven, claiming a cashier assaulted them and a 13-year-old girl with pepper spray.

Shaquesha McFrazier and Sabrina Westbrook say there were visiting a Silver Lake 7-Eleven in Los Angeles on May 24 when the incident happened. Reports show the 7-Eleven is located at 3555 W. Temple Ave. and its owner, Kiran Hussain.

The women and the teen girl say they chose the items they wanted and then went to the cashier, a non-Black male, to check out. The plaintiffs say the cashier was “immediately rude, distrustful and aggressive toward them.”

After McFrazier finished checking out, the cashier allegedly pushed her items toward her. “Don’t do that. That’s rude,” McFrazier says she told the man. That’s when the cashier came from behind the counter and sprayed the women in their faces with pepper spray. According to the lawsuit, the cashier also allegedly hit Westbrook in the neck with a baton. The women claim the worker went on to “hatefully spewed curse words” at the trio and told them, “Get out, get out, go, go, go.”

After being forced out, the women say they weren’t given a chance to grab the items they paid for and had to use water they bought to rinse their faces and the teen’s. The plaintiffs claim the cashier mistreated them because of their race, saying they non-Black customers would not have that experience.
