New Orleans is cracking down on the spread of COVID-19 by requiring all bar, restaurant, and Caesars Superdome patrons to produce proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.
Mayor LaToya Cantrell announced these new regulations on Thursday in response to the virus wreaking havoc on Louisiana and overwhelming the healthcare system in recent weeks. As of Wednesday, Louisiana had 2,901 hospitalized COVID-19 patients across the state. In New Orleans and the surrounding areas, COVID-19 hospitalizations stood at 592 for the same period.
“We are trying to get beyond this virus,” Cantrell stated. “I do not want to bring this virus into yet another year.”
This is just the latest move by Cantrell, who reinstated a citywide mask ordinance on July 30th and is now requiring all city employees and contractors to provide vaccination verification as a condition of their employment.
For the New Orleans Saints fans, this means that you will need to bring your vaccination card or proof of a recent negative COVID-19 test if you want to witness your team play at the Superdome.
This latest measure will take effect on August 16th and applies to all venues and eatery’s in the city. Enforcement will begin the following week, though there is no word on the penalty for establishments or patrons who do not abide by the rules.
