Britney Spears has won the battle against her father, who has agreed to step down as conservator of her estate.

The move comes after the #FreeBritney movement joined the star in calling for the removal of her father after years of controlling the singer, down to mandatory birth control and her music releases. The “Circus” star previously told the courts that she wanted to sue her father for “conservatorship abuse” and even have him jailed possibly.

Legal documents filed by Jamie’s attorney stated that while there are “no actual grounds for suspending or removing Mr. Spears as the Conservator of the Estate,” he doesn’t believe that a public fight with Britney over the conservatorship is in her best interest. The docs say he will contest the unjustified removal but has agreed to work with the courts and Britney’s legal team to ensure a smooth transition.

Mathew Rosengart, Britney’s attorney, called the move a “vindication” for the pop icon. He encourages her father to step down peacefully and refrain from making damaging comments about Britney.

At this time, it remains unclear who will oversee her estate going forward.
