niagra falls tour bus crash

Passengers riding on a tour bus traveling to Niagara Falls were taken to various hospitals for minor to severe injuries.

The accident happened on the New York State Thruway on I-90 Saturday, the New York State Police reported. Authorities responded to the scene around 12:41 p.m. and discovered the JTR Transportation but overturned.

The Brutus Cayuga County authorities determined the vehicle “exited the roadway for an unknown reason and rolled over onto the grassy shoulder.”

The bus carried 57 passengers, including the driver, later identified as Fermin P. Vasquez, 66, of Wingdale, NY, PEOPLE reported.

Twenty-six people were transported to Upstate Hospital for various injuries, and another 26 were transported to Auburn Community Hospital. The remaining were taken to Crouse Hospital.

Juan Gil-Urrego
told WSYR-TV that his mother, Ximena Urrego, arranged for the trip, saying it was one of many that she had organized.

According to Gil-Urrego, the bus departed around 6 a.m. He also said that a few children were in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Local authorities are seeking help from the public by asking for anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Investigator Brad Holcomb, SP Waterloo, at 315-539-3530.
