The White House announced that recipients of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines would be eligible for a vaccine booster shot eight months after receiving their second dose, starting the week of September 20th, pending approval from the FDA.
Officials said that the waning immunity of the current crop of COVID-19 vaccines, combined with the Indian ‘Delta‘ variant’s ability to cause breakthrough cases, is the reason why boosters shots are now needed.Â
