Kenosha prosecutors have filed two new motions in the case against Kyle Rittenhouse. One is asking to have a video of Rittenhouse expressing his desire to shoot people admitted into evidence. The other is for a list of donor names from his legal defense fund.
The video footage taken from across the street from a CVS was recorded two weeks before the deadly shooting. Rittenhouse can be heard describing his desire to shoot people with an AR-15. It does not show his face.
“Bro, I wish I had my f*cking AR. I’d start shooting rounds at them,” a voice that sounds like Rittenhouse says. The 29-second clip shows people exiting the CVS.
The prosecution believes the video will provide insight into his statement of mind during the summer of 2020. The affidavit accompanying the motion says the district attorney’s office obtained the video just last week.
In the second motion, Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger asks for the names of anyone who donated to Rittenhouse’s legal defense fund. He argues that those who donated should not be allowed to sit on the jury for the case.
Binger asked for a master list to be handed over to Circuit Judge Bruce Schroeder and for names of those from Kenosha County to be shared with the prosecution. The list should include anyone who donated to Rittenhouse’s $2 million bail, legal fees or bought “Free Kyle” merchandise.
The prosecution would like to look further into the names if they were considered for the jury, along with the family members and associates.
Rittenhouse’s trial is scheduled to begin on November 1. He is charged with first-degree reckless homicide for fatally shooting Joseph Rosenbaum and Anthony Huber. Rittenhouse is also facing attempted first-degree intentional homicide for shooting and wounding Gaige Grosskreutz. He faces additional charges related to the crime as well.
