A Wisconsin state senator, who pressed against wearing masks, is now in the hospital on a ventilator fighting COVID-19.

Around Aug. 13, State. Sen. André Jacque tested positive for Rona. While Jacque at one point said he was mostly symptomatic, struggling only with fatigue, he’s since been hospitalized in a fight with the virus. He’s been there for at least a week, the New York Post reports. On Monday, a spokesperson for the Republican politician said he’s now been placed on a ventilator.

This comes after Jacque continually condemned wearing masks and getting the COVID-19 vaccine. There are no details on whether or not Jacque has been vaccinated, a question his communications director did not answer in his response to the New York Post’s request for comment.

“While his condition is currently stable, the days and weeks ahead will continue to be an incredibly stressful and difficult time for Sen. Jacque’s family, as you can imagine,” Matt Tompach said in a statement. “Please respect their privacy during what will likely be an extended process. His office will provide updates as warranted.”

While the father of six handles his health, the governor of Wisconsin, Tony Evers, still requires all Wisconsin residents to wear masks.
