If you’ve been waiting for Taco Bell’s new sandwich tacos, then the time is near.
On Thursday, the fast-food chain announced that its new crispy chicken sandwich taco would become available nationwide on September 2.
Although it’s labeled a taco sandwich, Taco Bell says it’s “not quite a sandwich, not quite a taco.” I guess that means it can’t be one without the other.
The chain says customers will be able to get a taste of the new meal with early access on August 30 during the “Happier Hour” on the company’s app.
In February, Taco Bell said that the new sandwich taco was coming to select markets—Tennessee and North Carolina—in March.
According to PEOPLE, the new item is just what its description says it is, part chicken sandwich and part taco and will have all-white-meat chicken that’s been marinated in jalapeño buttermilk seasoned with a special Mexican spice blend and then rolled in a crunchy tortilla chip coating.
“Our new crispy chicken innovation is far from the average chicken sandwich, and we’re certain it will get a spicy reaction from sandwich and taco fans alike,” said Liz Matthews, Taco Bell’s global chief food innovation officer in a statement. “Even the masterminds from our test kitchen couldn’t decide if it was more taco or sandwich, which is why we’re excited to bring in the debate team experts to have some fun.”
The company also plans on holding a “debate” among the University of Georgia and Clemson University football teams during the upcoming Sept. 4 game to see whether the new item is considered a sandwich or a taco.
