A brave Texas homeowner confronted an intruder breaking into his house early Wednesday and struck the man in the face with a machete.
The homeowner reportedly woke up to the sound of breaking glass at 4:45 a.m. When he got up to investigate, he discovered Carlos Esteban Villaescusa, 22, breaking the front windows with a metal rod.
“Armed with a machete, the homeowner told the man to leave, but a confrontation ensued, and the homeowner struck the intruder in the face with the machete,” according to the El Paso Police Department. Villaescusa sustained multiple cuts to his face.
When officers arrived on the scene, Villaescusa fled on foot but was captured after jumping into a neighbor’s backyard. He was hospitalized with injuries from the confrontation and will be booked into the county jail once he is released.
The suspect is facing charges of burglary, evading arrest, criminal trespass, and criminal mischief.
Police said that Villaescusa additionally broke the windows out on another home and trespassed into a neighboring house.
