Twitter is paving the way for paid content on the social media platform by introducing Super Follows. The company launched the subscription-based service on Wednesday, with a global rollout to follow.
Super Follows, revealed in February, allows Twitter users to charge $2.99, $4.99, or $9.99 monthly for exclusive content. Applications to use Super Followers and another new feature, Ticketed Spaces, began in June. Accounts ran by musicians, journalists, content creators, activists, and more are eligible to apply.
To become eligible for the waitlist, a user will need at least 10,000 followers. You will also need to be over the age of 18 and tweet regularly. A minimum of 25 tweets in the last 30 days is required to qualify.
In addition to the Super Followers, creators will be able to use Ticketed Spaces to earn income. This feature was rolled out in June and is a paid audio chat room. Users will be given 97 percent of the revenue earned on their first $50,000. After crossing that threshold, Twitter will start taking 20 percent.
