Donald Trump’s ex-attorney Rudy Giuliani was tricked into praising individuals who investigated his former clients.
Giuliani shouted out activists and journalists on Cameo who previously investigated Derwick Associates. Giuliani represented the energy company when it faced money laundering and bribery allegations. The attorney joined the platform last month, which allows users to pay celebrities for custom recorded messages. Giuliani currently charges $400 for these customized clips. It remains unclear who requested the attorney to do the shoutout.
“Angus, Cesar, Orlando, Alek, Thor, (and) Otto, this is from the staff of Derwick Associates,” he began before adding, “The employees and the field staff of Derwick Associates want to thank you for your honesty and devotion, that you have fought for them for years and that, um, you’re very, very exceptionally dedicated.”
The 77-year-old did not realize he was shouting out Reuters investigative journalist Angus Berwick, who helped publish a report detailing how Giuliani used his relationship with Donald Trump to help Derwick Associates’ founder, Alejandro Betancourt, with his money laundering charges. The Cameo video also mentioned independent investigative journalists Cesar Batiz, Orlando Avendaño, Alek Boyd, and anti-corruption activist Thor Halvorssen.
Rudy Giuliani has not publicly commented on the video.
