Proud Boys Leader Surrenders Himself to Authorities

According to reports, The Proud Boys‘ leader, Henry “Enrique” Tarrio, has surrendered to authorities.

At around 9 pm Monday, Tarrio arrived at the D.C. Central Detention Facility, with only hours until the deadline set by a D.C. Judge to self-surrender and begin serving his prison sentence.

Tarrio was sentenced to more than five months in prison by a D.C. Superior Court judge last month for burning a Black Lives Matter banner and bringing two large, high-capacity magazines into the District of Columbia in December.
Another man walked alongside Tarrio as he surrendered to D.C. Corrections, and the two sang together as they approached the gate. “It’s going to be here for ya in five months,” the unknown man told Tarrio as the two hugged.
Judge Harold Cushenberry sentenced Tarrio to 155 days in prison and three years of probation due to his lack of remorse and repeated criminal offenses.
“Mr. Tarrio’s conduct in these criminal cases indicate none of these democratic values [he claims],” Cushenberry said. “Instead, Mr. Tarrio’s actions betrayed them. Mr. Tarrio has clearly, intentionally and proudly crossed the line from peaceful protest into dangerous and potentially violent criminal conduct.”
Tarrio was given two weeks to self-surrender to authorities at the detention center after he was sentenced, but the clock ran out at midnight on September 6. He’ll have up to a year to pay Asbury United Methodist Church hundreds of dollars in fines and reparations.
Tarrio spent his last hours of freedom posting to his Telegram profile, including a lengthy “goodbye letter” in which he expressed gratitude to his followers.
According to reports, it is unclear if Tarrio will be housed with other Capitol riot offenders, including the Proud Boys, who look to him as their leader.
