Bow Wow says that a new sequel to his beloved 2002 basketball film, “Like Mike,” is in the works.
The “Bounce With Me” rapper made the announcement during a Q&A session on Twitter Wednesday. When one fan asked if Bow would be making a sequel to “Roll Bounce,” his 2005 skate comedy, he replied that he was working on the “Like Mike” follow-up instead.
“We are working on a like mike sequel. It’s all just ideas as if now. But yes we have been talking. So far so good,” he wrote.
Another fan chimed in and told the 34-year-old that he should have his daughter Shai star in the movie. Bow hinted that the 10-year-old would likely be included.
“Shhhhh….. another gem ima drop. It wont be called LIKE MIKE. But LIKE someone. We are taking our time with this one. I believe this mite be bigger than original. Cant wait.”
The original “Like Mike,” which also starred Morris Chestnut and featured cameos from NBA stars such as Tracy McGrady and Vince Carter, debuted in theaters on July 3rd, 2002. The movie earned over $62 million at the box office. The film has already had one sequel titled “Like Mike 2: Streetball,” a direct-to-video release on June 6th, 2006. Neither Bow nor the original cast were in the sequel or involved at all with the production. This time around, the rapper promises things will be different, adding that he has reconnected with the original writer of the first movie.
