Singer Usher and actresses Julianne Hough and Priyanka Chopra Jonas are set to co-host “The Activist,” a competition show about the next significant world changer.
The CBS reality series will follow six activists over the course of five weeks who are working to bring about change through education, environment, and health causes. The participants will compete in various challenges in the realm of community outreach and digital campaigns to attract world leaders and demand reform. The winners of the challenges will be determined by Hough’s, Usher’s, and Jonas’s feedback, online engagement, and social metrics.
The activist who makes it to the end will have the opportunity to visit the G20 summit in Rome, Italy. The discussion includes leaders from 19 countries and the European Union who address global issues, including climate change and poverty. Activists that make it to this conference will meet with officials in the hopes of obtaining funds, publicity, and other resources for the causes closest to them.
Ivan Dudynsky and Fernando Hernandez serve as executive producers on the CBS series, produced by Global Citizen, Live Nation, and Deviants Media. Hugh Evans, CEO and co-founder of Global Citizen, calls the series a “first-of-its-kind competition” that will “inspire real change.”
“The audience will see the Activists’ passion and commitment for their causes tested as they petition world leaders to take urgent action to resolve the interconnected crises we face,” Evans said in a statement Thursday.
CEO of Live Nation Entertainment, Michael Rapino, hopes that the show will help to spread awareness about “society’s most urgent issues.”
“The Activist” will debut on Friday, October 22nd at 8 p.m. on CBS and the Paramount+ app.
