A 40-year-old single mother was struck and killed while walking along a highway early last Saturday morning in Rockland County, New York.
Katrina Grisby was walking along 9W when she was struck by the first vehicle around 3:55 a.m. A person driving northbound saw her lying in the roadway and witnessed a second vehicle strike Grigsby and drive off.
The second vehicle was located in Haverstraw, Clarkstown Police said, and charges are pending against the driver. Law enforcement is now asking for the public’s help in identifying the first vehicle that hit Grigsby and left the scene.
“The Clarkstown Police share our thoughts and prayers with the family and friends of the victim as we continue to investigate the crime,” the Clarkstown Police Department said in a statement.
A GoFundMe has been set up by one of Grigsby’s children, Khasyi Grigsby, to help pay for college expenses. According to the online fundraiser, it was his mother’s dream for him to further his education.
“Even with this sudden loss, his only wish is to fulfill his mother’s dream, which is for him to go to college and continue his education,” the GoFundMe said. “This little family now needs a village to help keep her dream alive. We are asking that everyone come together and help our family with Khasyi’s future.”
The fundraiser has raised more than $23,000 toward its $50,000 goal.
Police are asking for anybody who may have been traveling through the area and from 3:30 a.m. to 4 a.m. on September 4 to contact the department at 845-639-5800.
