Ohio Mayor Calls for Entire Board of Education to Resign After Controversial Homework Assignment: ‘Essentially Child Pornography’

The mayor of a city in Ohio is calling for the removal of an entire Board of Education after high school students were given an assignment that included sexual and drug-related content.

On Monday, Mayor Craig Shubert addressed attendees at a board regarding an assignment given to students. “It has come to my attention that your educators are distributing what is essentially child pornography in the classroom,” said Shubert during the meeting.

The homework asked students to read a controversial book and describe sexual experiences, pretend to be a serial killer, and describe the taste of beer. Some of the book contained excerpts that read, “write a sermon for a beloved preacher who has been caught in a sex scandal,” “describe your favorite part of a man’s body using only verbs,” “choose how you will die,” and “write an X-rated Disney scenario,” according to Cleveland.com. Another prompt said, “write a sex scene you wouldn’t show your mom.”

“I’ve spoken to a judge this evening; she’s already confirmed that. I’m going to give you a simple choice: either choose to resign from this Board of Education, or you will be charged,” the mayor added.

There are no details on what type of charges board members could face; as for now, no board members who pointed to a decision to resign.

“While we respect the Mayor’s position within the City of Hudson, in accordance with the State laws of Ohio, the supervision of the public schools of this District is the responsibility of the Board of Education,” David Zuro said in a statement.
