A viral video of a mother and her two-year-old asthmatic son getting kicked off an American Airlines flight is circulating on social media.
Apparently, the son didn’t keep his mask on, causing many to criticize the airline.
However, AA has responded, saying the situation is more complicated, Marketwatch reported.
Amanda Pendarvis shared her recent encounter on her Instagram Stories earlier this week. Pendarvis, her mother, and her 2-year-old son, Waylon, were removed from the AA’s Flight that was leaving Dallas-Fort Worth on Monday because her son was having an asthma attack and couldn’t keep his mask on his face.
A friend of the mother posted screenshots and video clips of the encounter on Twitter which garnered a lot of attention from other users. It shows Pendarvis trying to put her son’s mask on while he was crying.
American Airlines confirmed to MarketWatch that the flight the family was on did return to the gate and that they had to deplane for “refusing to comply with crew member instructions to remain seated while on an active taxiway and to wear face coverings securely over their nose and mouth.” The family was rebooked for another flight, and fees for the switch were waived, the airline said.
“After observing a minor in the party laying in the aisle and moving between seats on taxi out, our flight crew made multiple attempts to reinforce safety requirements,” he continued. “While addressing the party, our crew also reminded the individuals in the party that federal directives require customers to wear a face covering at all times while on board unless actively eating or drinking.”
”At no time was it made known to our crew members that a member of the party was experiencing an asthma attack or trouble breathing,” he added. “Individuals were not addressed for failure to comply with face covering requirements at any point while administering treatment.”
AA requires all passengers ages two and up to wear face coverings while on the aircraft.
A mom whose two year old wasn’t wearing his mask properly was kicked off an American Airlines flight. This is where we are, we have emboldened the biggest losers in our society to believe they are morally virtuous because they wear masks: https://t.co/rwHMCmjwaW

I doubt that any medical care professional has made a Dx of asthma, since the only proof of this is the mother CLAIMED the child had an ‘asthma attack’ You travel with paperwork in these cases, you can’t just assert there is a medical problem. Additionally, the child was in the aisle and walking around. Major safety hazard.
