A woman who used a fake “Maderna” vaccine card to enter Hawaii is now wanted after missing her virtual court date.
Chloe Mrozak of Oak Lawn, Illinois, made national news last month when she arrived at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport on August 23rd with a fraudulent COVID-19 vaccine card. The 24-year-old had uploaded the card to the state’s Safe Travels program. It stated that she received the Moderna vaccine in Delaware. However, the vaccine name was incorrectly spelled “Maderna” on the card.
Public health officials in Delaware told Hawaii authorities that she never received the shot. Police arrested Mrozak shortly after she arrived at the airport on August 28th for her return flight. She was charged with two misdemeanor counts of falsifying vaccination documents. According to court records, a judge initially set her bond at $2,000, but Mrozak was eventually released on her own recognizance. Mrozak’s motivation for the crime was to get around the state’s 10-day traveler quarantine mandate.
Now, Judge Karin Holma confirmed that a $500 warrant for Mrozak’s arrest had been issued for failing to appear for the Wednesday morning Zoom hearing.
If convicted, Mrozak faces a fine of up to $5,000 or a year behind bars.
