R&B singer R. Kelly was found guilty on all counts in his federal sex crimes trial following decades of misconduct and sexual abuse allegations.
A jury of seven men and five women reached its verdict Monday in Brooklyn, NY on 9 federal counts which include racketeering, sex crimes, human trafficking, obstruction of justice and kidnapping.
Several of Kelly’s accusers and witnesses testified against the ‘Ignition’ singer during the trial which began on Aug. 18. Many witnesses shared Kelly had a team of people who helped the singer meet girls to groom and exploit them. Kelly’s legal team also called on some of the singer’s ex-employees and associates to discredit the sex abuse claims.
This verdict comes 13 years after Kelly, was acquitted of child pornography charges at an Illinois state trial.
During closing arguments, Assistant US Attorney Elizabeth Geddes said the singer masterminded a scheme to “target, groom and exploit girls, boys and women.”
He faces 10 years to life in prison.
