A nursing scholarship honoring the late Breonna Taylor has been launched by Thrive Causemetics.
The Los-Angeles based vegan cosmetics company, which was founded in 2015, donated $100,000 to the University of Louisville to start the Breonna Taylor Memorial Endowment. The scholarship will go to nursing students from Kentucky. The beauty brand hopes to reach $2 million in funding to guarantee the longevity of the scholarship. In addition to the $100,000, another $3,000 nursing scholarship was donated, with freshman Kaelyn Goatley being chosen as the recipient. Goatley is studying to become a pediatric nurse.
Breonna Taylor, an EMT, had ambitions of becoming a nurse one day. Sadly, the 26-year-old’s dreams were cut short when she was brutally murdered by officers with Louisville Metro Police Department last year during a botched no-knock raid. No officers have been charged in connection to her death.
Karissa Bodnar, the CEO of Thrive Causemetics, stated she hopes that Taylor’s legacy will “live on in the hearts of the beneficiaries who receive this scholarship, as well as the lives those individuals change.”
The lawyer for the Taylor family, Sam Aguiar, stated that Taylor’s mother, Tamika Palmer, “is amazed by this contribution” and is “thankful” for the donation to young people pursuing careers in the healthcare field.
