The family of a California mother shot by a school resource officer announced Friday that she is expected to be taken off of life support this weekend.

Manuela “Mona” Rodriguez, 18, was shot by Millikan High School safety officer Eddie Gonzalez last month. The shooting occurred after an altercation between Rodriguez and a 15-year-old girl.

According to the family, Rodriguez was being prepped for organ donation before being taken off of life support.

“We were six, now we’re five,” her brother said during the press conference.

Rodriguez is also survived by her 5-month-old baby.

Following the altercation last month, Rodriguez attempted to flee in a four-door sedan with two males who were also involved in the fight. As the car sped toward Gonzalez, he opened fire, striking Rodriguez. Also in the vehicle were a 20-year-old man and a 16-year-old male.

Gonzalez has been placed on paid leave while the shooting is being reviewed, according to the school district’s spokesperson, Chris Eftychiou. The shooting violated the district’s policy, stating that “Officers shall not fire at a moving vehicle.”
