Target said on Tuesday that employees who work during the busiest days of the holiday season would be paid $2 per hour more.
Store and service center employees who work on Saturdays and Sundays from November 20 to December 19 and on Christmas Eve or the day after Christmas will receive the additional pay.
Target claimed in a website announcement that certain headquarters employees are also eligible.
Hourly supply chain workers will be paid more during peak two-week periods between October 10 and December 18, when goods must be moved from shelves to boxes.
The exact timing will be determined by the employees’ place of employment.
Currently, Target pays a $15 hourly minimum wage.
As many businesses struggle to fill jobs and focus on employee retention, the company plans to offer even better pay for holiday workers.
In September, Korn Ferry asked 176 U.S. retailers to see if they were having difficulty hiring, and only 2% said they weren’t.
Last month, Target announced that it would reduce seasonal hiring and instead give its roughly 300,000 current retail employees more hours.
The company launched an app that allows employees to take up an extra shift on demand if they want a more flexible schedule to accommodate child care or college education.
