Nestle is getting ready to offer plant-based alternatives to eggs and shrimp. The famous Swiss food giant is expanding its menu in the burgeoning vegan market and developing products marketed as “vEGGie” and “Vrimp.”

In a statement via their website, Nestle explained that “vEGGie,” the company’s egg substitute, is made from soy protein and omega-3 fatty acids and “can be scrambled like real eggs, used in a frittata and pancakes or even as an ingredient when baking cakes or cookies.”

The shrimp alternative, “Vrimp” is made from mixing seaweed, peas, and konjac root, which creates “the authentic texture and flavor of succulent shrimps,” the statement claimed.

“vEGGie” and “Vrimp” will be offered to the public in a “test-and-learn” launch at a limited number of stores in Switzerland and Germany.
