Dave Chappelle is currently the newest celebrity to apart of ‘cancel culture’ and is receiving backlash once again from the LGBTQ+ community.

The comedian found himself at the center of another controversy following his new special, “The Closer.” Even though there’s been a lot of talk about “canceling” the comedian, it seems as though he loves it.

“If this is what being canceled is about, I love it.”

During the Netflix special, Dave seemingly responds to the ‘cancel culture’ criticism he have received for his previous statements.

“I don’t know what to tell you, except I’m a bad motherf–ker. F–k Twitter. F–k NBC News, ABC News, all these stupid ass networks. I’m not talking to them. I’m talking to you. This is real life.”

In the past, the comedian have been called homophobic and transphobic. Dave brought up DaBaby’s history with the LGBTQ+ and how he was treated after making a misinformed comment. The provocative comedian then says DaBaby, “punched the LBGTQ community right in the AIDS.” Soon after, Dave also mentions DaBaby’s shooting incident.

“Nothing bad happened to his career. Do you see where I’m going with this? In our country, you can shoot and kill a n***a but you better not hurt a gay person’s feelings.”

Dave’s comments obviously wasn’t acceptable to some people. TV producer and actress Franchesca Ramsey voiced her opinion by responding to a tweet that defended Chappelle. “Hey this is harmful’ isn’t an attempt at ‘cancellation’ nor is it possible to ‘cancel’ a very wealthy & famous man for spreading transphobic bullsh-t in the name of ‘comedy’, Ramsey said.

Netflix’s Dear White People showrunner, Jaclyn Moore also took to Twitter to share her thoughts. The trans-writer says she will no longer work with Netflix if they continue to “put out and profit from blatantly and dangerously transphobic content.”

Legend Stevie Wonder was also in attendance for the special and shared a few remarks on the topic. “What we need to cancel is hate. What we need to cancel is fear because we have to have love, and we should never cancel that. I want us to cancel the idea of feeling that we don’t want anyone to laugh because if we don’t laugh, we cry. And I don’t believe that was God’s intention — ever.”
