Dr. Fauci Encourages Kids to Enjoy Trick-or-Treating This Year

Dr. Fauci says that vaccinated families should participate in trick-or-treating this year.

This new advice comes as Halloween approaches, making some parents wary of taking their children out to enjoy the festivities as the COVID-19 pandemic looms. However, Fauci urges vaccinated families to enjoy the beloved outdoor activity.

“I think that, particularly if you’re vaccinated, you can get out there and enjoy it,” the nation’s top infectious disease expert stated before adding that Halloween is a “very important part of the year for children.”

Last month CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky also reassured parents that children should enjoy trick-or-treating this year in small groups in outdoor settings. However, she still suggested that people steer clear of crowded indoor Halloween events and urged anyone eligible to receive the vaccination before the holiday. Pfizer’s vaccine is currently available for anyone ages 12 and up.

The new Halloween guidance differs significantly from last year when the CDC issued stricter rules for enjoying holidays. With no vaccine available at the time, health officials warned that trick-or-treating was too risky and could increase the spread of COVID-19.
