A Wyoming coroner’s office revealed Tuesday that Gabby Petito died by strangulation and the manner of death was a homicide.
Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue also estimated that Petito may have been dead 3 to 4 weeks before her remains were found.
Blue declined to share more details surrounding Petito’s autopsy report since Wyoming laws limit what coroners can release. However, he did confirm the 22-year-old was not pregnant.
Petito’s body was found in a national park in Wyoming on September 19, days after her family reported her missing. Her disappearance, which came as she and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, were on a cross-country road trip, sparked nationwide conversation. Laundrie, who remains unaccounted for, is a person of interest in the case.
