Memphis USPS Worker Kills Himself After Fatally Shooting 2 Other Employees

Authorities say two USPS employees were fatally shot at a Memphis mail facility, and the third employee described as the shooter died from a self-inflicted gunshot.

This is the areas’ third high-profile shooting in the west Tennesse city.

After the shooting at the East Lamar Carrier Annex in a popular Memphis area, three postal workers were found dead, according to US Postal Inspector Susan Link. The shooting was carried out by a third postal worker who eventually shot himself, said FBI spokeswoman Lisa-Anne Culp.

Authorities did not reveal anyone’s identity or a motive during an initial press conference late Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting happened in the historic Orange Mound district, southeast of downtown Memphis, at a post office branch.

Following the shooting, police shut the street leading to the post office, and federal authorities gathered at the scene as well.

A white four-door vehicle was taken away from the scene, but it was unclear who owned it.

“The Postal Service is saddened at the events that took place today in Memphis,” USPS said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the family members, friends, and coworkers of the individuals involved. The Postal Service will be providing resources to all employees at the East Lamar Carrier Annex in the coming days and weeks.”
