A Florida mother is facing charges after sending her son to kindergarten with a loaded gun in his backpack back in May.
Ariana Carroll, 26, was charged with improper storage of a firearm. After missing a recent court date, she was initially charged with contempt.
The boy discovered the revolver in his bag the day after his mother cleaned out her car and put the gun in his back. When he opened his backpack and saw the gun case, he brought it to the teacher’s attention.
The teacher alerted a school police officer, who discovered the gun was loaded. After he unloaded it and “made it safe,” the sheriff’s office contacted Carroll. Carroll told police that she put the gun in her son’s backpack while cleaning out her car for her father to use.
The silver handgun had been reported stolen by Carroll’s boyfriend in 2019.
She is next scheduled to appear in court on November 4, where she will answer for both charges.
