Transgender Netflix workers have staged a walkout over Dave Chappelle‘s recent controversial statements about the LGBTQIA community.
On Oct. 20, transgender staff members at Netflix are planning on walking over the streaming service’s decision to support and defend comments the comedian made about the LGBTQIA community in his recent comedy special “The Closer.”
Not only did Chappelle’s statements during the special trigger the uprise, but trans employees at the company are also standing up against Netflix suspending a trans senior engineer named Terra Field. Field spoke out against the streaming giant as well as Chappelle on Twitter.
“I work at @ netflix. Yesterday we launched another Chappelle special where he attacks the trans community, and the very validity of transness – all while trying to pit us against other marginalized groups. You’re going to hear a lot of talk about ‘offense,’ she wrote in a tweet. But a source told the New York Post that Field was suspended for allegedly eavesdropping in on a meeting that only included executives.
In a memo, the walkout group explained the reason for their stance. “Trans Lives Matter. Trans Rights Matter. And as an organization, Netflix has continually failed to show deep care in our mission to Entertain the World by repeatedly releasing content that harms the Trans community and continually failing to create content that represents and uplifts Trans content. We can and must do better!” the statement reads.

We are not offended 🧵
