New York native and rapper Cardi B is known for staying true to what she believes in, including politics. But she has since taken a step back from sharing her thoughts on the subject.
On Thursday, a fan asked the mother of two what happened to her talking about politics and political matters.
“@iamcardib Used to talk about politics & political matters! What happened with that?!??” the user asked.
Cardi responded by saying, “I was tired of getting bullied by the Republicans and also getting bashed by the same people I was standing up for.”
But of course, critics took the time to voice why they really thought the rapper shut down from offering her pollical opinions, saying, “Cuz you sound like you’re slow when you talk and it was ruining everything,” wrote the user.
Cardi responded this time by saying, “It was the only way YOU would understand me.”
Cardi was vocal about her political opinions at one point. During last year’s presidential election, she encouraged her followers to go to the polls and even sat down with presidential candidates to ask some important questions.
She spoke with Bernie Sanders on numerous issues and with Joe Biden on police brutality.
“I want Black people to stop getting killed and no justice for it,” she told the president. “I’m tired of it. I’m sick of it. I just want laws that are fair to Black citizens and that are fair for cops, too. If you kill somebody who doesn’t have a weapon on them, you go to jail. You know what? If I kill somebody, I’ve got to go to jail. You gotta go to jail, too. That’s what I want.
