Netflix announced that it had fired an employee who leaked confidential financial information about what it paid for Dave Chappelle’s comedy special “The Closer.”
In a statement released by Netflix, the company alleged that the employee, who was not identified, shared “confidential, commercially sensitive information outside the company.”
The statement continued, “We understand this employee may have been motivated by disappointment and hurt with Netflix, but maintaining a culture of trust and transparency is core to our company.”
The statement detailed that confidential information was referenced in an article featured in Bloomberg, which reported that Netflix spent $24.1 million on “The Closer.” The article also revealed financial data about a 2019 Chapelle special, a Bo Burnham special and the latest blockbuster hit show, “Squid Game.”
Netflix said an internal review of its access logs determined that the information was linked to a specific employee, who “admitted that they downloaded and shared sensitive company information externally.”
