A Black Nashville comedian was accused of breaking into cars in his own apartment complex by a woman who said he “fit the description.”
Joshua Black was approached by a woman in the parking garage of the complex where they both live Wednesday night. He recorded the confrontation in a now-viral video posted to his TikTok.
“Hi, I live here. I’ve been living here for five years, and then Karen walked up to me just now, and she’s pestering me about what I’m doing following her,” the comedian says into the camera.
News4 Nashville reports that the unidentified woman accused Black of tailgating her car into the garage. While confronting him, she asked, “Do you live here?” and then questioned him about the break-ins.
Black questioned how he could fit the description as a Black male in a pink hoodie because he knew the suspect’s description. Black reportedly had his car broken into numerous times and was aware of the situation.
According to the apartment complex, the description of the suspect breaking into cars looked nothing like Black. The break-ins were done by a white male on a bike with a red backpack.
The woman told the outlet she eventually apologized in the video and admitted that she should not have asked Black if he lived there.
“Unfortunately, that kind of racism is just normal, and we become numb to it as Black people,” Black said.
