Actor Michael B. Jordan and tennis icon Serena Williams have joined forces to reward HBCU students and alumni with $1 million to fund their entrepreneurial endeavors.
The initiative is a collaborative effort between Williams’s investment company, Serena Ventures, Jordan’s Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic, and the newly established capital firm, MaC Venture Capital. Those looking to get a piece of that $1 million must submit their business plans to enter the contest. Winners will be announced on December 18th during halftime of the Invesco QQQ Legacy Classic Basketball Showcase Finals in New Jersey.
Alison Stillman, the general partner at Serena Ventures, called HBCUs an “integral part of our educational ecosystem” that has been at the center of “entrepreneurial excellence.”
“We are thrilled to be partnering with Michael B. Jordan and MaC Ventures on highlighting the brilliant student and alumni founders,” Stillman stated.
Thirty-Five Ventures, Cake Ventures, and Harlem Capital Partners will also join the three companies in working closely with the winners to bring their proposals to life.
