The 2021 Soul Train Awards has found a new home at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem.

BET announced the venue change on Monday, marking the first time that the soul music award show will take place in New York. The star-studded evening will be filmed on November 20th in person, a far cry from last year’s ceremony, which was held virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since debuting in 1987, the Soul Train Awards has been held in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Las Vegas. Now, the ceremony will dazzle at the Apollo in the same year that the legendary theater marks its 88th anniversary.

Connie Orlando, EVP of Specials Music Programming & Music Strategy, will oversee the soul, R&B, and gospel award show, while Jamal Noisette will Co-Executive Produce for BET. Jesse Collins of Jesse Collins Entertainment will fill the role of Executive Producer alongside Jeannae Rouzan–Clay, also of Jesse Collins Entertainment.

Orlando says it is an honor to hold the ceremony in the Apollo, which will “celebrate Black excellence and culture with one unforgettable night of can’t miss moments.”

Last year, “Martin” stars Tichina Arnold and Tisha Campbell hosted the festivities. However, details surrounding this year’s hosts and nominees have not yet been released. The 2021 Soul Train Awards premieres Sunday, November 28th at 8:00 p.m. on BET and BET Her.
