John Deere Workers’ Strike for Better Pension, Healthcare, and Wages Continues (Video)

The union workers at over a dozen John Deere factories across the United States continue to strike for the 6th day.  The strike started on Thursday, October 14, affecting more than 10,000 workers and 14 facilities. UAW union leaders said they were unsure of when contract talks would begin again. In a statement released last Friday, Deere & Company said it had no timeline on the next steps of the negotiation process.

The workers are striking for post-retirement healthcare and a better pension that they can retire on. John Deere and Company made an offer on October 10 that did not include these. The company’s proposal included a 5 to 6 percent raise, but union officials said the proposed contract didn’t meet workers’ retirement and wage goals.

The Workers are receiving a lot of support from other unions and business owners. Even the President of the Metalworkers Union in Central Brazil has released a message of solidarity with the John Deere employees, who are refusing to take no for an answer.
