A family in Arizona lost four of its members to COVID-19 in just days.

As the world continues to grapple with the Coronavirus pandemic, families worldwide have been negatively impacted by the deadly virus. So far, about 4.9 million have died around the world, with 733,000 of the deaths coming from the United States.

One family in Arizona suffered a tremendous loss after four people died after catching the virus in a matter of days. “It just doesn’t seem real. It just don’t,” said Kenisha Williams, who lost her mother Thelma P. Williams last week to COVID-19. Only a few days later, Williams lost her sister Janet Jones, who endured complications related to the virus, 12 News reports.

“I was at work when my mother passed, which was at the same hospital, and once she passed and I had to tell my family, I got a call from my nephew that my sister wasn’t doing good. So, every time you lay down and get up, you’re hearing about a death,” said Williams.

Two days after that, Williams’ niece, Whitney, also passed away from the virus. Whitney was vaccinated, but she had underlying medical conditions unrelated to COVID-19. The 25-year-old had just graduated from cosmetology school. “I know it’s going to take a while but it’s a hard pill to swallow when you lose four people within a week, all back-to-back,” said Williams. Williams cousin also lost her battle with COVID-19 this month.

“To me, either way you still need to take care of your body,” said Williams to the news outlet. “My niece was vaccinated and had a medical condition. Talk with your doctor and what precaution is best for you and what you should do.”

So far, more than 20,000 people have died from COVID-19 in Arizona.
